Most of us aspire to make our lives, both personal and professional, better, by working hard to achieve our version of success. When starting or running a business we have that vision in our heads, but sometimes we can detour especially when challenges come and things don’t seem to be happening as fast as we would like. And, that’s when the success stories, the ‘picture perfect’ lives and seemingly rapid progression of others can further distract us from our purpose.
I love seeing and applauding what other’s are achieving, it never fails to motivate me to keep pushing forward, but when I find myself getting discouraged by my perceived lack of progress, wondering why I have not achieved such and such a goal yet, I catch myself with the reminder that I am not travelling the same path as that person, that my journey is different and my time will eventually come in its own way as long as I keep working towards the goals I have set for the vision I want to achieve.
It can be tempting to want to emulate your peers’ versions of success, making it very important to put what we read or see into the context of which it is being presented. We do not know what goes on behind the scenes, and at the end of the day everyone’s entrepreneurial journey, motivations, circumstances, and experiences are different, and what works successfully for them may or may not work for you.
So, you do you, be inspired but focus on forging your own path to success.
